Question: To
connect a single wall board to a PC do I need a Converter Box, or do I just plug
the RJ11 jack into the wall board and the other end to the RS232 PC port?
Answer: A
Converter Box may be used, but it is not required unless (1) multiple Alpha
signs are being used or (2) the distance from the RS232 PC port to the Alpha
sign is greater than 100 feet.
When only one Alpha
sign is being used, and when the distance is not too long, you may use a proprietary
RS-232 Modular Adapter and a Modular RS-232 Cable. The Modular Adapter plugs
into the PC's Serial Port, and it has an RJ11 jack on the back for connecting
the RJ11 cable. You have a choice of two RS-232 Modular Adapters, and you have
a choice of cable length:
RS-232 Modular
Adapters:
DB25 Male Serial
Port: Part # 4370-0001C is a DB25F to RJ11-06 RS-232 Modular Adapter that
plugs into a 25-pin Serial Port on your ACD system. Cost is $35.
DB9 Male Serial
Port: Part # 1088-9108 is a DB9F to RJ11-06 RS-232 Modular Adapter that
plugs into a 9-pin Serial Port on your ACD system. Cost is $18.
Only one RS-232 Modular
Adapter is required.
Modular RS-232
Cables:
Part # 1088-8625
is a 25 foot long, 6-conductor, Modular RS-232 Cable that plugs into the RS-232
Modular Adapter on one end and into the RJ11 port on the Alpha sign on the other
end. Cost is $15.
Part # 1088-8627
is a 50 foot long, 6-conductor, Modular RS-232 Cable that plugs into the RS-232
Modular Adapter on one end and into the RJ11 port on the Alpha sign on the other
end. Cost is $24.
Custom length cables
are available upon request.
Only one Modular
RS-232 cable is required.
